The Volvo Adventure supports environmental education of school children and is an opportunity for them to gain international recognition for their local environmental projects, Now in the 5th year, the Volvo Adventure is a global project that has regularly seen winning initiatives from Indian teams. Last year saw almost a1000 international entries from across the world.
Volvo in Indiatoday announced the Volvo Adventure competition in partnership with UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) to recognize and reward practical environmental action being taken by young people in their local community. Volvo Adventure is a joint project run by the Volvo Group,Volvo Car Corporation and is recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The Volvo Adventure Competition culminates with the VolvoYoung Environmentalists Awards.
The global Internet-based global environmental-education programme for school children aged between 10 and 16 is aimed at increasing the environmental expertise of tomorrow’s decision-makers and consumers. The initial stages of the program are conducted entirely online and are aimed to combine fun, learning and practical action for young people concerned with our environment. The www.volvoadventure.org site also contains a host of information for the participants to browse through and offers the ability for teams to network with like-minded young environmentalists from across the world.
Speaking on the announcement of the contest, Eric Leblanc, Managing Director, Volvo India said,” Volvo initiates this Global environmental award to encourage young people to proactively participate in environmental education programs and gainInternational recognition through their local initiatives. From our experience in the last 4 years, we know that the children have far more energy, concern and ideas on the way forward than we often realise. We now look forward to the next set of ideas and actions that these young people bring to the table”.
