Mudra’s entry for saving energy wins ECO India’s contest

MUMBAI

ECO India is a NGO that is supported by ECO USA. To promote the themes under their aegis they had launched a nation wide contest to select films that will be extensively run on Indian Television Channels. On-film acknowledgement will be given to the creators. The chosen film will also be entered at the Cannes Lions Festival and various other Film festivals.

This year, ECO India launched its 3rd public service mass media campaign. The theme for this year was Energy Conservation.

The contest:

To create a 25-second (or less) commercial that persuades people to conserve energy.

Selecting the winner:

An eminent panel of judges comprising of advertising and media personalities and prominent feature filmmakers select the winning film(s).

What does the winner get?

Wide exposure of the film on national and regional channels and most importantly, the film will carry the credit by-line of the creator and maker.

Attractive Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 entries.

The best entries will get a chance to compete for the People’s Choice award sponsored by Reliance Communications.

The winning film(s) will also be entered in select national and international festivals!

Who can enter?

Well anybody. An Advertising agency, a Creative Director in his individual capacity, a film Maker or anyone, who believes he has it in him/ her to create an award winning PSA!

Mudra’s winning entry

The film is a montage of people and situations. In each situation the person seems to get a great idea that is signified by the idea bulb that switches on over his head. But he/she just does a small act of saving energy like closing the refrigerator door or switching off the car's engine while waiting for the traffic signal to turn green. The film ends with message

'Saving energy is a big idea'.

ECO INDIA: Events of the past

The ECO India PSA on conserve water ‘Do your bit’ won the best PSA award in the Environment and Wildlife film festival -Vatavaran 2005. The award went to the director - Anand Thakur and producer - O & M Mumbai.

In March 2005, ECO India concluded its 2nd annual Environment TV spot contest on Vehicular Pollution. 64 Entries were received and the best 3 selected.

The first prize went to Surojit Sen from Rediffusion DYR, the 2nd to Sameer S. Murudkar from Vyas Giannetti Creative, Mumbai and the 3rd to Bhavna Gupta and Sonia Bhatnagar from JWT, Delhi.

These were broadcast on national and regional channels with a credit byline of the creator and entered in the Vatavaran Environment and Wildlife film festival, New Delhi in 2005.

Just prior to Diwali 2004, ECO India's spot on Noise Pollution was aired once again on Discovery channel, STAR TV, ZEE News and Cartoon Network using donated airtime.

Diwali 2004 was a special day when ECO India's 12 second spot on conserve water was screened in cinema halls just prior to Mr. Yash Chopra's latest blockbuster, 'Veer Zara'. The spot has been released together with the film across the country, thanks to our directors, Mr. Yash Chopra and Mr. Manmohan Shetty.

December 2003, ECO India in tune with its mandate of promoting ecological sensitivity within the media and the public in general, launched a nationwide contest to attract filmmakers to create a 30 or less commercial on the theme of Conserve Water. The prize offered was, that the winning entry will be broadcast on television networks in the country and entered for the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2004.

As a response to the contest, ECO India received 43 entries from across the country.

The jury comprising of Peter Mukerjea, Govind Nihalani, Kaushik Roy, Sam Balsara, Amit Khanna and Rajesh Pant selected 5 winning entries.

Water conservation was ECO India's campaign theme for the year 2003 -04.

As a part of this effort, Radio Mirchi collaborated with Eco India to produce and air 2 spots on the Conserve Water theme in 7 metros across the country.

ECO - India has worked with Earth Communications Office, USA, to have one of its most widely accredited Public Service Announcements, entitled- "The Power of One" brought to Indian audience. ECO - India has secured donated air time from major TV channels and networks and this Public Service Announcement aired for over 3 months, reaching out a wide audience across the country.
