Hemant Sachdev, Director - Marketing, Bharti Tele-Ventures, is the recipient of the "Marketing Professional of The Year" 2002 award. The award has been instituted by the Indian Express group of publications in collaboration with Centre for Change Management & Indira Group of Institutes. The selection process is based on a process of ranking by 7,200 senior executives across industries in India. Further rankings was done independently by 18 management institutes and finally adjudicated by a jury of eminent professionals of Indian industry.

The award recognizes strategic marketing planning skills and leadership and vision for building strong brands. The award comes at a time when Bharti's brands have emerged as India's premier brands with a Pan India presence, present in 15 mobile circles and 5 fixed line telecom circles of the country in addition to the National and International long distance service operations. Today Bharti's mobile service AirTel, covers a population of 600 million people, is present in 16 states of the country and has 27% of India's total mobile population under its umbrella.

Recently AirTel pulled off an industry coup by featuring A.R. Rahman, in its new well-acclaimed brand campaign a first ever association between the maestro and any brand anywhere in the world. The A.R. Rahman AirTel initiative was not just a first in India but also managed to touch the lives of millions of consumers across the length & breadth of India. The brand today is perceived as a clear 'Leader in the Industry'.

The award was presented to Hemant Sachdev on the 12th of January 2003.
