Carlson Hotels Worldwide - Asia Pacific today announced plans to open a Radisson hotel in Ranchi, the first deluxe hotel to be built in this eastern Indian city.

Carlson has signed an agreement with Jagmohan Lal Gupta Estates Pvt Ltd to operate the hotel, due to open in April 2010. This will bring Radisson's world-renowned service and facilities to this picturesque city nestled in the valley of Chotanagpur.

As capital of the state of Jharkhand, Ranchi is located 650 metres above sea level, and is known for its cool climate and picturesque attractions such as waterfalls, glades and hillocks. The city is also an emerging industrial centre, a factor that influenced Carlson's decision to enter the market here.

Martin Rinck, president and managing director of Carlson Hotels Worldwide - Asia Pacific, said, “the group sees great potential in India given the increasing demand for quality hotels here by domestic and international travellers.

“Ranchi is an important industrial centre, and the Radisson Hotel Ranchi will provide a good option for the increasing number of travellers visiting the city for the meetings and conventions. We are confident that the hotel's strategic location, coupled with its world-class services, will make it a preferred choice in the growing meeting and business segment of the travel market.” he said.

Mr. Dilip Kumar Gupta, Chairman and managing director of Jagmohan Lal Gupta Estates Pvt Ltd, added: “We entered into an agreement with Carlson to develop this hotel with state-of-art facilities for the growing number of leisure and business travellers in Ranchi. We are confident that Radisson Hotel Ranchi will offer a unique customer experience to the discerning domestic and international travellers.”

Located in the heart of the city, five kilometres from the airport, the 108-room luxury hotel will feature a host of facilities geared towards business guests, including a fully equipped business centre, 24-hour wireless Internet access; and a 585 square metre banquet hall with state-of-art conferencing facilities and the latest audio-visual equipment. The list of recreational facilities includes a health club and spa: a swimming pool with a deck and bar; as well as a lounge, bar, discotheque and all-day dining.

Carlson currently manages 26 hotels in India under the Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites by Carlson and Park Inn brands, with another 31 hotels under development.
