BIG TV DTH emerges as the leading DTH Service in Mumbai

Reliance BIG TV, the DTH service from Reliance Communications, is emerging to be the fastest growing DTH service in the country.

Big TV sources said that Mumbai alone the company has clocked sales of 100,000 Set Top Boxes (STBs) in each city within three weeks of the launch. “Even in the other markets like South India, Gujarat, interior Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, the response has been overwhelming,” a Big TV official said.

“Big TV is the first DTH service to offer the MPEG4 digital platform providing DVD quality images and sound. At over 200 channels, it has the largest bouquet of channels, 32 of which are exclusive movie channels,” the Big TV official said.

According to analysts Big TV’s biggest strength it is its price-value equation. While the service is competitively priced at Rs. 1,490/-with a launch offer of three months free subscription, it offers a range of entertainment options that its competitor are unable to match.

The retail network in Mumbai (currently around 5,000 retailers in each) is now being expanded and so is the installation team strength. Mumbai has an installation team of 750 each which is now being ramped up by atleast 150 technicians.

Nationally, the company claims that Big TV is available across 100,000 retail outlets across 6500 towns. It also has a team of close to 10,000 trained installers across the country with a cumulative capacity of installing 25,000 connections a day, company sources say.

BIG TV DTH Service has set up Call Centers capable of handling over 50,000 calls daily, in 11 Indian languages including English, across two locations to enable high-quality and speedy response to all customer queries.

However industry observers point out that while Big TV has set a scorching pace since it launch, going forward, with other big corporates like Airtel and Videocon set to enter the market, the company will have work extra hard to maintain its growth rate.
