The Internet-based global environmental-education programme for school children aged between 13 and 16 is aimed at increasing the environmental expertise of tomorrow’s decision-makers and consumers. The competition has been designed for two age groups this year. Bob the Bunny's Cartoon Competition aimed at younger adventurers aged between 10 to 12 years and The Volvo Adventure Competition aimed at members aged 13 to 16 years who will design an environmental project for their local community. The initial stages of the program are conducted entirely online and is aimed to combine fun, learning and practical action for young people concerned with our environment. It also offers the ability for teams to network with like-minded young environmentalists from across the world.
Speaking on the contest on behalf of the Volvo group communications, a company spokesperson said, “Volvo initiates this Global environmental award to encourage young people to proactively participate in environmental education programs and gain International recognition through their local initiatives. From our experience in the past years, we have noticed that, in all corners of the globe, young people have been relentlessly striving to improve their environment. We also know that children have far more vigor and innovative ideas on the way forward than we often realise. We are eager to see the next set of ideas and actions that will be churned out”.
To register for the competition, children will have to log onto www.volvoadventure.org and start their environmental projects. The adventure continues for 2009!
With a wide variety of environment related topics to choose from, this Volvo initiated program aims to build awareness and love for the environment in children who will evolve into consumers and decision makers of tomorrow. The competition is structured around groups of a maximum of five participants who undertake environment-promotion projects. These 3- 5 students from a school or community between the ages of 13-16 years have to work on a practical action project that will improve their school or community environment. At least one adult / teacher has to act as a referee/mentor/guide for the group. The projects can focus on any environmental subject.
The projects are then published on the Volvo adventure website and the best projects are selected for an all expenses paid trip to Göteborg Sweden. Apart from the huge cash reward, the winners receive international honour for their notable work which motivates them to encourage many others in their communities to work for the betterment of the environment.
To register for the award, teams will have to log onto the Volvo Adventure on www.volvoadventure.org and register on-line to help start their environmental project. They can also download a host of relevant information for guidance.
The last day to submit projects is 31 January 2009.
Groups entering an environmental project to Volvo Adventure could:
Win an all expenses paid trip to attend the Volvo Adventure Conference in Sweden,
Present their environmental project and practical action to a jury of international experts,
Win a $10,000, $6,000 or $4,000 prize to fund your environmental project,
