FotoFlock.com by Epson, the portal dedicated to all things photography, and now one of the most frequented sites on the subject, announces the 'Photo of the Year' contest, conceivably the biggest Indian photography contest ever!
Aimed at giving amateur photographers the ideal platform to showcase their talent and help them get the recognition they deserve, the contest has 48 finalists, short listed from over 11,020 entries which have been gathered over a period of over 365 days.
If getting into the finals was a difficult proposition, then winning the contest is going to be even tougher because the contenders have to woo the flock, the FotoFlock editors and the four celebrity judges - namely Daboo Ratnani, Subi Samuel, Fawzan Husain and Vikram Bawa in their pursuit to take the top honours in the contest.
Winners will take home an impressive lineup of Epson’s top-of-the-line home theatre projectors and photo printers, a personally autographed photo by the internationally renowned photographer Steve McCurry (of National Geographic fame) and an opportunity to be noticed and recognised by the country's professionals, semi-pros and amateurs alike, providing a rare stepping stone to move into the big league.
Chosen after a yearlong process, during which 48 'Photos of the Month' were chosen and voted for by the community (popularly known as 'the flock'), the Photo of the Year contest is perhaps the most democratic of all photo contests. All members of this highly active community site, which total to almost three and a half thousand as we go to press, will have a chance to vote for their favourite photo, based on what stems from an appraisal that only hard-core photographers and amateurs can offer.
And it’s going to be a tough task 12 months, 365 photos, 44 contenders, 48 final entries. Who will take the big prize?
Fotoflock.com’s meteoric rise since the time it was launched, a little more than a year ago, is commendable amidst the motley of sites on the subject, making it today the most frequented news and feature based photography community portal on the web, focussed on an Indian audience. Updated on a daily basis, with weekly reviews, articles and reviews, the site has some of the world's (and India's) finest and most renowned photographers providing information, intellect and interviews on a regular basis. With the latest product reviews, insightful articles on a variety of developments in the photography world, tips and tricks for those who seek them, a unique by and sell marketplace and an interactive forum that allows the community to share and discuss things, seeking and passing opinion as and when, and contests such as this, have made FotoFlock.com a bookmark in many a photographer's browser. The editors, of course, feel that the site has a long way to go, so we expect to see much more happening there!
