ITpreneurs, the global leader in IT Service Management (ITSM), has completed an extensive 4 month research project by surveying ITIL Experts, to evaluate the value of achieving the ITIL Expert level for ambitious IT professionals. The results are being announced in a series of whitepapers aimed to provide guidance and insights to professionals as well as organizations that employ these professionals. The first in this series of white papers has just been published and focuses specifically on how organizations benefit from professionals who are ITIL v3 Expert certified.

The research project completed in March 2010 included a global survey and in-depth interviews of more than 160 ITIL v3 Experts and ITIL v2 Service Managers. There are four stages in the research process which includes: Online Survey, Interviews, Analysis of responses and finally results. The participants in the research and the survey represent 5 continents and focused on the central questions around how advanced ITIL Certification (particularly the ITIL Expert level) impacted factors such as job performance, job prospects, professional network, salary and overall career.

Commenting on the results, Ms. Anuradha Madhusudhanan, Country Director, ITpreneurs, said, “The primary driver for IT professionals to invest in ITIL training / certification is to become better at implementing or managing ITIL/ITSM in an organization. The research is mainly focused on the development of career, performance of the job, building network inside or outside an organization, improved experience and increased salary. ITIL v3 Experts / v2 Service Managers feel that certification makes them feel more valued as a professional.”

Some of the key findings elaborated in the white paper are:

* Investing in ITIL training and certification will tangibly boost job productivity of key IT professionals

* It will lead to better implementation of IT Service Management processes within the organization and will help professionals become better at implementing ITSM for customers

* It will help your IT professionals to better connect with industry peers and utilize shared best practices knowledge to your organization’s advantage

This whitepaper contains interesting and unexpected results that the research team encountered and provides guidance to organizations looking to implement ITIL v3 (or related IT Best Practices framework). For any organization or IT leadership that is considering the value of having ITIL Experts in their teams, the results and the recommendations provided by the surveyed professionals will be of great interest.
