Paying tribute to the iconic Carnatic singer and a recipient of Bharat Ratna, Smt M.S. Subbulakshmi, Tanishq, India's largest and most preferred jewellery brand, unveiled a limited edition of engraved gold coins for its consumers. The coin was launched in Chennai by acclaimed Carnatic classical vocalists Dr. M Balamuralikrishna and Sudha Ragunathan.
She was known as much for the humanitarian work as for Carnatic music. And Tanishq is making a contribution towards her favored causes of Cancer and diabetes research – The Cancer Institute and the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai.
The gold coins, weighing 2 gms, 4 gms and 8 gms and engraved with an image of M.S.Subbulakshmi, will be available across select showrooms in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad*. Along with the purchase of a gold coin, customers also get a book of memoirs that captures significant landmarks of the legend's life and gives readers an insight into her musical journey.

M.S. Subbulakshmi, one of the stalwarts of Carnatic classical music, has many accolades to her credit including the fact that she was the first musician to be awarded the Bharat Ratna. She is also the only Indian musician to have performed at the United Nations.
