Maximum City has given fresh lease of life to almost every event but literature. In order to fill the literary emptiness enshrouding the city, Spandan Foundation, in association with, India's first edutainment channel, have organized a nine-day long book event - 'Mumbai Book Fair 2013'from 13th to 21st April, 2013 at Hiranandani Gardens, Powai.
The fair will be a joyous festival of celebrating Indian literature, art and culture. During the nine-day book fair, 35 eminent publishers will display more than 3, 00,000 books encompassing several literary genres. In other words, it will be a veritable literary treasure trove for people to come& enjoy!
The highlights of the event will include gatherings of writers, theatre personalities, lyricists and folk artists, garnished by stimulating panel discussions by experts centered on literature and education.
Literary heavyweights like Amish Tripathi, the author of the bestselling Meluha series, Rashmi Bansal, author of five bestselling books on entrepreneurship including Stay Hungry Stay Foolish and Connect the Dots, Ashwin Sanghi, thriller fiction writer (Chanakya's Chant, The Krishna Key) will grace the occasion. Other dignitaries Prahlad Kakkar, leading ad film director, and Dolly Thakore, theatre personality and the likes will also address the visitors.
What's more, the eminent film director like Anurag Basu and music directors like Shantanu Moitra and Adesh Srivastava; playback singers like Abhijeet, and scriptwriters and lyricists like Sandeep Nath and Manisha Korde will charge up the fair. A special attraction will be a talk by Resul Pookutty, winner of the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for the film Slumdog Millionaire.
Subhadarshi Tripathy, Business Head, ZeeQ says, “Books are an integral source of learning in a child's life and we at ZeeQ in our endeavor to make the learning experience interesting and fun for every child, saw this as an opportunity to bring both the ends together to make wholesome learning a child's play.” He added, “In association with Spandan, in coming years, we will help evolve this occasion as an indispensable event in the in the life of each and every child.”
The Spandan Foundation spokesperson, Shantanu Bhattacharya says, “At a time when our children and youth are increasingly being seduced by the lure of the insubstantial - be it movies or computer games, we along with ZeeQ want to make an effort to reintroduce to them the magic of books and the pleasure of reading.” He added, “In this endeavor we have been fortunate to have the partnership and support of ZeeQ. We both share the same vision - to further knowledge and education levels of kids everywhere through various methods of engagement.”
The nine-day event will see a host of daily interactive activities like quizzes, painting competitions, art & crafts and robotics workshop for kids. Besides, in order to invigorate the routine evenings of Mumbaikars, this book fair will host the number of cultural and literary activities. Traditional dance forms like Bihu and Chou, fusion dances, solo instrumental performances, an instrumental (Ghatam, Mridangam, Sarangi, Flute) jugalbandi, open mike performances, Hasya Kavi Sammelan (a gathering of comic poets), a puppet show and the likes will ensure continuous entertainment, whereas a live performance by India's most acclaimed musical band 'Indian Ocean' will enthrall the visitors on the penultimate day.
Mumbai Book Fair 2013 is a pioneering event and the best thing is that it will now be an annual one too—one that each Mumbaikar can look forward to as a source of recreation and a literary oasis!
