General Knowledge Quiz Competition by Sandesh reaches out to 12,000 school students

‘Sandesh – Student of the Year, Quiz competition’ is an initiative by Sandesh group to provide school students of Gujarat with a platform to enhance and test their knowledge, to improve the overall quizzing level in the state and to inculcate the habit of consuming news on daily basis, among the students. In the first 2 season of ‘Sandesh – Student of the Year’, more than 12000 students from over 1000 schools spread across Gujarat have been part of this competition, making it the biggest school level quiz of Gujarat.

The format of the quiz includes city rounds being organized in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot. Wherein all the participating students undergo a general knowledge test and the top scoring students then progress further to the on-stage quizzing rounds including quarter finals, semifinals and final. The winner of the final is crowned as ‘Sandesh – Student of the Year’ city champion and he/she qualifies for the state level grand finale. 2014 season, grand finale was organized at Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad, wherein the student from St. Xavier’s Loyola Hall , Ahmedabad – Neham Jain, studying in class 8 emerged as the state champion. Neham was awarded with a champion’s trophy, certificate and cash prize.

‘In this digital age, children are spending lots of time online and on their gadgets, but most of it is on things like games and social media. The consumption of news content either online or offline is really low among today’s children which is the reason why we see today’s students less aware about the current happenings in and outside the country. With our quiz and question pattern which is focused on current affairs we are trying to spread the message to students on how important it is for them to read newspapers, watch news channels and surf news website to help them stay updated and enhance their knowledge.’, said Parthiv Patel, Managing Director – Sandesh.
