SOS Children’s Villages of India spread their endeavor to Andaman & Nicobar Islands

In support of the humble effort of SOS Children’s Villages of India to make a difference in the lives of children struck by the catastrophic Tsunami, Shri Harcharan Singh, Sr. Vice President Finance, Indian Express presented a donation, a sum of Rs. 1.23 Crore for construction & equipping of ‘SOS FAMILY HOMES’ at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On behalf of the SOS-India, Shri J.N. Kaul, President, SOS Children’s Villages of India thankfully accepted the donation at SOS Children’s Village, Greenfields.

Mr. Harcharan Singh, Sr. Vice President Finance, Indian Express was traditionally welcomed by SOS Mothers and children, along with Mr. Pradeep Singh, National Director, SOS-India before being escorted for a tour of the Children’s Village. Adding colour and fervor to the event was cultural performance by the children of SOS Village, Greenfields.

The killer waves of Tsunami on December 26th, 2004 not just caused huge damage to the property but moreover left many crippled, broken & devastated, the worst being the children. SOS Children’s Villages of India played a central role in answering the call for rebuilding lives post-tsunami with series of extensive rehabilitation programs. Extending the reach of the SOS-India to the emerald island -Andaman & Nicobar is the result of the efforts of SOS Children’s Villages task force during the rehabilitation work of Tsunami.

Speaking on the occasion Shri J. N. Kaul, President, SOS Children’s Villages of India and Padmashri Award winner said, “ I am very happy with the initiative taken by Indian Express. We will be able to expand our work and reach out to many more children in need and bring them within the fold of SOS Children’s Villages of India”
