Sushanto Roy, son of Sahara India managing worker Subroto Roy, is set to take charge of the diversified groups media and entertainment arm. According to company sources, Sushanto Roy will take over from Sahara India deputy director worker Sumit Roy with immediate effect.
A 16-year veteran at Sahara, Sumit Roy was heading the companys mainstream channel Sahara Manoranjan as well as the newly launched news channels. The first two news channels from the Sahara stable - Sahara Samay Rashtriya and Sahara Samay Uttar - were launched with great fanfare in April 2003. Sahara Samay Mumbai is slated for launch in September.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Sushanta Roy, who will be based in Mumbai, will be designated CEO, media and entertainment, Sahara India. Simultaneously, Sumit Roy, who was elevated to executive director worker two weeks ago, is shifting base to the company headquarters in Lucknow from New Delhi. It is learnt he will be involved with strategic and financial initiatives at the group.
For the record, Lucknow-based Sushanto Roy played the role of Lt Vijayant Thapar in Mission Fateh, the much-hyped Sahara series on Kargil heroes.
