NEW DELHI, December 26

It was a celebration of the Indian apparel excellence. Max Style CMAI Apex Awards in association with Zoom was a cocktail of fine clothing mixed with fashion and entertainment! In a glittering ceremony at The Leela Kempinski, Mumbai, held yesterday, the Clothing Manufacturers’ Association of India (CMAI), India’s premier association of the apparel Industry in association with Killer Jeans, the largest selling denim brand in India from the house of Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited and Zoom, India’s premier glamour & lifestyle channel honoured members of the fashion, and apparel industry, both in the export and retail sector by recognising their talent and contribution.

Truly the biggest celebration of Indian Apparels, the Maximum Style CMAI’s Apex Awards was hosted by glamorous and versatile Zoom anchor Supreet Bedi. The event was a star-studded evening with socialites and celebrities from the city’s glitterati showing up in full force. Besides style icons like Mandira Bedi, Rohit Roy, Aanchal Kumar, Muzzamil Ibrahim and Queenie Dhody being recognised for their trend-setting style statements at the event, renowned choreographer Achla Sachdev, Zoom anchor Samir Kocchar accompanied by his lady love Radhika Gulwady, popular television actress Mansi Joshi, fashion designer Krishna Mehta, actress Kunika Lal, erstwhile television actress and theatre personality Bhavna Balsaver were amongst the others who graced the occasion. Eminent choreographer Hanif Hilal walked down the ramp showcasing Killer’s winter collection. This year, in a major initiative to glamourize the most prestigious and awaited awards, CMAI has tied up with Zoom, an association for the next 5 years and as a result, has included 5 special awards to recognise the style icons from the television, ramp and Page 3 circuit.

The expert jury members from the industry included: Govind Srikhande (CEO, Shoppers’ Stop), Avi Sonepal (MD, Steve & Barry’s), Anil Biyani (Director, Pantaloon Retail), Vinay Nadkarni (CEO, Globus),Narendra Kumar Ahmed , Neeta Lulla & Shane and Falguni Peacock (Celebrity Fashion Designers), Bhaskar Das (Executive President, Bennett Coleman & Co), Tim Eynon (Consultant, Provogue), U.M.Lad (VP, Westside), Hemang Savla (Director, Benzer), Samar Roy Sharma (Raymond), Viren Shah (MD, Roopam), Krishna Sahai (Advisor, FDCI), Veena Gidwani (CEO, Madison Public Relations) and Gautam Rakshit (MD, Avenues Advertising).They made their selections based on documented and personal presentations made by the nominees and handed them over to the auditors who kept the results secret until their announcement at the awards event held last night.

The winners in the various 28 categories include Louis Philippe, Cambridge, Spykar Jeans, Classic Polo, Biba, Allen Solly and United Colors of Benetton, Giny & Jony, Dollar, Body Care, and others.

Captain C.P. Krishnan Nair, Chairman, The Leela Palaces & Resorts, was honoured with CMAI Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering efforts in the handloom sector by championing the cause of handloom weavers that has set far reaching industry standards in the textile sector today. His three magnificent creations in Corporate Hotels and Resorts, The Leela Kempinski Mumbai, The Leela, Goa , and The Leela Palace Kempinski Bangalore stand testimony to his unswerving spirit in the tourism industry as well. Capt. Nair has won numerous awards over the years including the Pride of India Gold Award, the Prime Minister’s National Tourism Award, for six years, The Green Hotelier Award by the International Hotel & Restaurant Association, and The Golden Globe Award for highest clothing in 2000 and 2001.
