Rediff.com has launched an innovative service called Mobile Search, which enables more than 15 million cellular subscribers in the country to search for ring tones using the mobile code 7333. This service is the first keyword-based search on the mobile platform available to subscribers across all leading networks in the country.
It is the latest offering from Rediff.com within its SMS-based mobile services, and the company hopes that this initiative will take-off the way others have in the past. "Over the past few months, downloading ring tones has gained immense popularity with our users. Rediff Mobile Search will now provide an opportunity for young enthusiasts to instantly search and download their favourite monophonic and polyphonic tunes from the convenience of their mobile phones," says Ajoy Krishnamurthy, vice-president, eCommerce, Rediff.com.
According to IDC, the estimated international ring-tone sales were almost $17 million in 2002 and will jump to more than $400 million by 2005.
