ESPN STAR Sports ropes in Ian Chappell in an exclusive deal

ESPN STAR Sports, Asia’s leading sports’ broadcaster, today signed Ian Chappell, the legendary Australian cricketer and ex-captain, as an exclusive presenter and commentator for its cricket related programming in India. With this, Chappell becomes a part of the illustrious panel of “A Few Good Men” which includes some of cricket’s finest experts like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Alan Wilkins, Wasim Akram and Harsha Bhogle.

Announcing the induction of Ian Chappell in the expert’s panel, Mr RC Venkateish, Managing Director, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, said, “We are delighted to welcome Ian to the ESPN STAR Sports family. A candid and an insightful commentator, Chappell is regarded by many as one of the best Australian captains. Under his confident and resourceful captaincy, Australia never lost a series. Ian Chappell made his debut in a test series against Pakistan in 1964. In his long test career that spanned 17 years, Ian Chappell played in 75 test matches and scored 5345 runs at an average of 42.42. He played 16 one day internationals and scored 673 runs at an impressive average of 48.07.

Indian cricket fans can tune in to views and commentary of Ian Chappell from India’s upcoming tour of England. India’s tour of England involving 4 test matches and 7 One Day Internationals will be telecast on ESPN STAR Sports. The English tour will be followed by the much awaited Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa (September 07). ESPN STAR Sports will also telecast India’s tour of Australia involving 4 test matches and a tri series with Australia, Sri Lanka and India involving 15 ODIs (December – February 07) . The Asia Cup to be played in April next year will also be telecast on ESPN STAR Sports.
