Despite the surge in entertainment programmes across channels, there is a large segment of audiences across the world who still cherish programmes on our ancient culture &heritage, traditional customs & folklore and matters spiritual, which address the very essence of leading a balanced and harmonious life.
More so among Indians settled overseas who see such a programme as a means for the family especially children to be in touch with the great heritage of India.
It is this urge, especially among Keralites in particular and South Indians in general, that has prompted Amrita TV to launch the second season of "Sandhya Deepam-2" from May 12, 2008 on prime time (Mon-Fri,6.30 pm).
As the name suggests the programme seeks to capture the mood and ambience of the auspicious twilight time when traditional homes light the evening (Sandhya) Lamp(Deepam);wherein the household comes together at the altar or engages in devotional activities like prayers, chanting or reading holy scriptures.
An engaging and knowledgeable anchor invites the viewers to share and observe the spiritual practices followed in homes. The programme takes a fresh look at the devotional aspect of Kerala's rich cultural heritage ,based on ancient scriptures, which is slightly going into oblivion.
Broadly, "Sandhya Deepam-2" consists of four segments-Namasankeerthanam,Bhajagovindam,Jyothirgamaya and Deeparadhana covering an engaging mix of elements.
The programme will feature scholars on vedic studies, religious studies and spirituality ,including a tour of famous places of worship and the stories and myths surrounding various holy places.
