MTV Asia announced that Karen Mok will be co-hosting the MTV Asia Awards 2008 at the Arena of Stars, Genting- City of Entertainment, Malaysia. Come 2 August, Karen Mok will join Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars in hosting the 6th annual pan-regional awards show which gives recognition to regional and international artists for their achievements in the industry.
Karen Mok is an accomplished actress and singer who has enjoyed phenomenal success in Asia since making her debut in 1993. In 2003, Karen created waves in the music scene when she was crowned Best Female Singer in Taiwan’s prestigious Golden Melody Awards (the equivalent of the Grammy Awards in the Mandarin music market). She was the first female artist from Hong Kong to be given this highest recognition in the Mandarin music scene. Karen Mok is also a constant favourite at the MTV China award shows, having received accolades at the CCTV-MTV Music Honors 2000 & 2003 and also the SMG-MTV Style Gala 2004. In 2005, Karen made history again by being the first Asian star to take on the lead role in the Broadway hit musical “RENT” on its 10th Anniversary World Tour during the Asian stops.
The award-winning actress has appeared in nearly 40 films since her foray into acting in 1994. Since then, Karen Mok starred in several Hong Kong box office hits like “Shaolin Soccer”, one of the highest grossing films in the region, Stephen Chow’s “The God of Cookery” and Cory Yuen’s action movie “So Close”. This talented artist also won critical acclaim for her role in “Fallen Angels”—directed by famed Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai— taking home the Best Supporting Actress award at both the Hong Kong Film Award and the Golden Bauhinia Awards in 1996. Karen Mok has recently completed filming Ekachai Uekrongtham’s English-language thriller “The Coffin”.
Karen Mok’s unique style and chameleon looks have made her one of the most sought-after personalities in Asia. She is also widely recognised as a fashion icon due to her chic style and distinctive personality. MTV is very pleased to have the gifted Asian beauty as the co-host of the MTV Asia Awards.
"I'm really excited to have the opportunity to host this year's MTV Asia Awards and to celebrate the spirit and power of music with MTV and artists from around the world," said Karen Mok.
