King Vikramaditya, the brave and wise King, faces an unusual request from a Sage he respects – that he should capture a ghost (Betal) from the forest to help the sage with his sacrifice. The brave king ventures into the forest and captures Betal, but there is a clause - with each attempt Betal narrates a story, it is followed by a question on the same. Failing to answer it correctly will forfeit the King of his life, and answering it correctly will give the king a chance to recapture Betal. After three such stories, King Vikramaditya finally pins down Betal, but only to find a treacherous plot unravel, as he reaches his destination.
