CNN is partnering with MTV to help raise awareness for the continued need to support relief efforts in Tsunami-battered South Asia. CNN will be producing a series of exclusive reports for MTV's Asia Aid benefit concert to be held in Bangkok on February 3. CNN will also produce a one-hour special from behind-the-scenes, which is aimed at generating donations for UNICEF and several local charities.
"CNN is proud to partner with MTV for such an important cause," says Rena Golden, senior vice president, CNN International. "We, the media, need to work together to help maintain the world's attention on reconstruction needs, and the difficult process of healing for the people around the Indian Ocean."
The MTV benefit concert will feature musical performances from Alicia Keys, Good Charlotte, Kelly Clarkston and top Asian acts like Asha Bhosle and Tata Young. Jennifer Lopez, Sting, Nelly, 50 Cent and Ricky Martin will offer messages of support during the broadcast.
In a supporting role for the MTV Asia Aid concert, CNN correspondents have produced nine reports chronicling the human element of tragedy in the aftermath of the Tsunami. The intimate video-montage pieces, featuring first hand accounts of the survivors, will air throughout the concert.
On February 6, CNN will air a one-hour special hosted by Monita Rajpal, featuring highlights from the concert and behind-the-scenes conversations with some of the top performers. Carol Bellamy, Deputy Director UNICEF, will also appear to talk about reconstruction efforts, and the long-term needs for aid organizations in the region.
