With only a few days before Ganesh Chaturthi, BIG 92.7 FM across its stations of Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Bhopal, Surat and Baroda are all closely monitoring the final touches to their eco-friendly, paper mache Ganesha. Over the last 50 odd days the Stations have been appealing to the local populace to donate 1 newspaper per household, to make the city’s very own Ganesha with the message to go eco-friendly. What is unique about this Ganesha is that BIG 92.7 FM is actually getting the local populace involved in contributing to the making of the Ganesha, thus driving in the message along with the contribution from the people.

So successful has been the drive, that each city has touched an approximate number of 2000 households, each contributing to at least 1 newspaper. The excess paper collected in each of the cities will be handed over to the Ganesha maker to be used in the making of another Ganesha statue at a later date. As the Ganesh idol for each of these cities gets its finishing touches done, the Stations are super-excited about the idol and are closely monitoring its progress. The Stations are also lining up an excellent mix of people to perform the aratis each day, ranging local celebrities and listeners along with the BIG FM jocks.

The on air programming will have innovative content in terms of interviews, listener and celebrity interaction, live arati’s from key city pandals. The devotional band will see the Ganesha arati’s play Ganesh bhajans. On air will also see listeners wishes being fulfilled, as Bappa’s mouse will pick lucky listeners whose wishes will be fulfilled. All this and much more on the city’s favorite festival promises to keep everyone thoroughly entertained and glued to the Stations.

Taking on the issue of eco-friendliness this Ganesha, BIG FM RJs will speak to the city not only about the forthcoming Ganesha celebrations and preparations but also the different issues faced by Mumbaikars during and after the festival due to increasing levels of pollution. The entire peg will be to help Mumbai celebrate the festival ensuring the social responsibility on their part. The initiative has just been announced and the Station’s have already started receiving great response from listeners wanting to contribute to the eco-friendly celebrations. BIG FM listeners will come together to perform the Poojan every evening with a known Ganesh Bhakt celebrity and take the lords blessing to live healthier and longer in a pollution free city.

Commenting on the excellent response received for the paper collection drive, Mr. Anand Chakravarthy, Sr. Vice President, Marketing BIG 92.7 FM said, "The idea that BIG 92.7 FM has, is extremely innovative and unique, given that it gets the local populace involved in putting together the City’s eco-friendly Ganesha. Through their contribution of newspapers, listeners contribute not just to the making of their very own Ganesha, but also contributing to the environment. The response received this far is huge as we have touched over 10,000 homes and lakhs of listeners across the cities. Creating great content around local city specific and relevant festivals helps us in reaching out to our listeners with a focused and purposeful approach, helping us in ensuring loyalty and creating advocacy for the station. We are confident that they will come in large numbers to be part of the sthapana, aratis and right up to the visarjan. We wish everyone a very happy Ganesh mahotsava."
