'Sakal', the most popular Marathi daily in the state of Maharashtra published by the Sakal Media Group has registered a whopping rise of over 4,17,000 copies as per the latest ABC findings.

The total circulation of Sakal in the state has been found to have risen to 13,30,542 copies from 9,12,741 copies. This rise has been registered for the period of Jan - Jun 2010 over Jan - Jun 2009.

Interestingly, all the 9 editions of Sakal including Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Nagpur, Satara, Jalgaon and Solapur have registered growth in circulation for the period mentioned above.

Major gains were recorded for Kolhapur and Aurangabad editions of Sakal, where the circulation grew by over 100%. The Kolhapur figure was 2,20,599, whereas Aurangabad was 2,00,935 for Jan - Jun 2010 as compared to 1,09,299 and 85,411 in Jan - Jun 2009 respectively.

Commenting on this grand success Uday Jadhav, Chief Operating Officer, Sakal Media Group said, "We changed for better and readers responded positively. In Pune, we focused on consolidating our numero uno position, by improving the main issue further, with special attention to look, feel and content."

"Many special supplements and dedicated pages introduced for better connect with readers were well received. A huge chunk of new readers from the age group 5 to 13 got added to Sakal family with an introduction of 'Full 2 Dhamal' a dedicated page for them", Mr. Jadhav added.

According to him the mammoth rise in circulation in Kolhapur and Aurangabad, two of the most important cities of the state is primarily because of Sakal's approach of localizing the content to the best possible extent. More content with increased number of pages, attractive presentation with use of info-graphics contributed significantly in this rise.

Sakal has always been on the forefront of undertaking ground level activities as a part of its reader-connect initiative. It undertakes as many as 300 activities per month across 9 locations, 56 regional offices and across many different verticals.

Sakal's strong association with sports and cultural events, great connect with women readers through its 'Madhurangan' program is fueling the steady growth of Sakal in the state.

Gomantak Times and Gomantak, the popular English and Marathi dailies in Goa also belong to Sakal Media Group and are growing steadily there.
