New Delhi
Starting this Thursday Ten Sports will telecast live top quality golf from the European Tour calendar. The Smurfit Open which was previously moved from course to course is now firmly established at the K Club’s Palmer Course which has hosted nine of the previous ten editions of the open.
Darren Clarke who withdrew from the BMW Championship at Wentworth Club and missed last week's U.S. Open Championship will be seen back in action for the Smurfit Open alongwith Retief Goosen who will be defending the title following his impressive five-stroke victory over the Smurfit Course last year. Other contenders in the fray include Paul Lawrie, Tom Lehman, and Sandy Lyle who complete the line-up of Major Champions in the field.
The mix also includes both the captains for the 2006 Ryder Cup matches - Ian Woosnam and Tom Lehman. The 2005 field is sure to be top class as it will give both the captains and the prospective Ryder Cup players a chance to gain familiarity with the location before returning for next year's matches. Record prize money of £2,300,000 has also been confirmed for the tour.
