New Delhi, April 20, 2011

With the world cup victory still fresh in our minds, Red FM in its true Bajaate Raho style has come up with yet another interactive campaign to push for a Bharat Ratna for the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. In line with its tradition of being a station for expression Red FM launched its campaign "President Sahiba Suniye” helping voice the opinion of their listeners, who believe 21 glorious years of cricketing excellence by the maestro deserves to be duly recognized.

Constitutional experts say that according to present guidelines the Bharat Ratna can only be given for outstanding contribution in the fields of art, literature, science and social service. To confer the Bharat Ratna on Sachin Tendulkar the rules would have to be modified to include outstanding contribution in sports. Red FM through its campaign "President Sahiba Suniye” is highlighting the popular opinion of Delhites and giving listeners the chance to vocalize their opinions on the issue. Red FM is circulating a letter in the form of a petition getting thousands of Delhites to sign up. People from all quarters ranging from sports personalities, journalists and ex-Bharat Ratna awardees have come out in support of the cause.

The campaign has been on air since 8th April and will culminate on the 24th April 2011, which is incidentally Sachin Tendulkar's birthday. Red FM RJ's have been actively involved in the on-ground signature campaign since the 11th of April. The "President Sahiba Suniye” campaign is also gaining popularity on social media networks with more than a thousand likes on its Facebook page already.

Commenting on the latest campaign Nisha Narayanan, senior VP, projects and programming, RED FM said "Sachin is India's most revered and beloved icon. This campaign is a manifestation of the wishes of the people of India, who want their hero to get the highest civilian honor. We know that conferring the Bharat Ratna on Sachin would require that rules be modified first, but being ‘the station for expression' we are giving listeners the opportunity to express themselves on a topic that they feel strongly about. We hope that the Sports Ministry tables a proposal soon before the Government of India and heeds the wishes of millions of Indians across the country.”

The on-air campaign is accompanied by an extensive on-ground signature campaign at various touch points like colleges, major bus stops, market places, etc. Currently there are more than 5000 people pledging their support via the signature campaign.
