July 22nd 2011, a day now indelibly ingrained in Norway’s history, is the date Anders Behring Breivik killed eight people in a bomb set off outside government headquarters in Oslo and embarked on a 90-minute shooting spree, resulting in the death of 69 young people on Utoya Island. It was one of the bloodiest massacres ever. Discovery Channel chronicles the events of that horrid day – and the impact it has on this nation and its people – in NORWAY MASSACRE: THE KILLER'S MIND.
A one-hour exclusive NORWAY MASSACRE: THE KILLER'S MIND will air on Discovery Channel on Wednesday, September 21 at 9 pm and will repeat on Saturday, September 24 at 8 pm.
Commenting on the programme, Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager – South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific said, “Discovery Channel through its highly researched programmes presents detailed analysis and perspective to the topical subjects. Whether it is examining the criminal’s mind in Norway massacre, the death operation of Osama Bin Laden, the rescue of the Chilean miners or the tsunami in Japan, the channel brings viewers a complete picture of how and why things happen.”
NORWAY MASSACRE: THE KILLER’S MIND explores the mind of Anders Behring Breivik, a self-confessed assassin, and revisits the moments leading up to the tragic bombing and shooting spree in Norway. Weaving together the moments leading up to this tragedy, the programme also charts the hour-by-hour events from the time of the bomb Breivik set off in Oslo, to the cold-blooded shooting of defenseless teens on the idyllic island of Utoya. In addition, the special will provide first-hand accounts from eyewitnesses and survivors who personally suffered the tragedy.
A 32-year-old man Breivik is responsible for the deadliest shooting spree in history. What in his makeup drove him to carry out this massacre? Breivik calls his actions “atrocious but necessary” – but exactly who is this man, and what led him to act? Through psychological analysis Discovery Channel’s programme NORWAY MASSACRE: THE KILLER'S MIND examines the mind and the motives of the self-confessed assassin who is responsible for these heinous killings. The programme provides new insight into Breivik’s motives by some of the world’s leading experts on criminal psychology including Professor David Wilson and Katherine Newman, analysing his likely psychological journey during that day and asking just what drove him to orchestrate and carry out this plan of carnage.
