Pop Culture Publishing is happy to announce that the Graphic Novel called ‘Munkeeman’ by Abhishek Sharma will be launched at the Comic Con Express Mumbai which is to take place at WTC, Cuffe Parade from 22-23 October ‘2011.

The Multi-talented creator of this comic book, Abhishek Sharma (Director and Writer of ‘Tere Bin Laden’) has come up with his first graphic novel. Abhishek is a graduate from National School of Drama (NSD) and made his feature film debut with the sleeper hit comedy Tere Bin Laden in 2010. He is currently working on the script of his next untitled film to be produced by Manmohan Shetty's Walkwater Media. Munkeeman is his attempt at creating a highly entertaining graphic novel that is inspired by an urban legend called the 'Monkey Man' or Kaala Bandar, that was sighted in New Delhi in the year 2001.

Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India and Pop Culture Publishing, says, “In this 'dark humor' laden narrative, Abhishek Sharma has tried to tell an interesting story of a 'Monster' who believes that he is a 'Superhero'! The idea is to create India's first 'Dark Superhero' through a series of graphic novels & comics targeting teenagers & adults.”

Abhishek Sharma, Author, Munkeeman explains, “It is not just an ordinary comic. It is a tale of a Monster who thinks that he's a Superhero! It is a tragedy of a brother who loves his stepsister! It is an experiment of a scientist that has gone horribly wrong! It is after all a comic with a decent dose of sex & violence.”

He further adds, “Why Munkeeman? That's the question every person who remembers the mass hysteria of 2001 is going to ask. Well, my answer is simple: He has been ignored for a very long time and before he comes back to draw some more attention to himself, lets give him his due! This is his story in his own words. He wanted someone like me to make a movie on him but for now this is the best I could do.

Abhishek also plans to make a movie on Munkeeman in near future, but his first aim is to successfully establish a comic book franchise on this extremely crazy character.

The story is about an absurd creature who wreaked havoc on the rooftops and street corners of Delhi. Nobody ever got a full glimpse of him but the few unlucky who encountered him, described him as half human and half ape. The police, the media and the gossip-mongers, started to call to him as Munkeeman. Now Ten years Later, He is back with a Bang! And this time, he wants the world to know his side of the story.
