Kochi, May 03, 2017:

Regional daily in India (Mathrubhumi) stands tall in solidarity with journalists for press freedom on world free press day.

Mathrubhumi, the Malayalam language daily from India has shown its solidarity with journalists on 3rd may, the world free press day.

The newspaper with a daily circulation of about 1.5 million copies has black shaded the news columns in its front page.

Mathrubhumi daily which was in the forefront of India's freedom struggle in the 1930's and 1940's has done this gesture to show its support for journalists in countries where press is denied freedom and journalists are subjected to punishments in various forms.

However, Mathrubhumi acknowledges that the democracy of India offers complete freedom to press, but it calls for free press in other countries too.

The blacked out contents are published without any censoring in the inside pages of Mathrubhumi daily on 3rd May itself, so that its readers don't miss out on any unbiased news.
