Rediff’s Prabhakar Wairkar launches his fourth book, ‘Life Illustrated’

An exhibition of some of Wairkar’s noted works, which includes cartoons and caricatures, is being held in Mumbai at present

Prabhakar Wairkar, senior illustrator, Rediffusion DY&R, has launched his fourth book, titled ‘Life Illustrated’. Wairkar’s other published works are ‘Jest Doodling’, ‘Bodyline’ and ‘Caritoons’.

Talking about his new book, Wairkar says, “The book is a compilation of some of my works from the recent past.”

Wairkar plans to launch more titles in the future.

Wairkar, who has been associated with Rediff for the last 24 years, has sketched many noted personalities such as Pandit Ravi Shankar and Bal Thackeray.

His satirical illustrations are a regular feature in dailies such as ‘The Times of India’, ‘The Indian Express’ and ‘Mid-Day’. His other achievements include illustrations for ‘Dreams to Reality’, the biography of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the President of India. He has also been awarded twice by the Communications Art Guild (CAG).

An exhibition of some of Wairkar’s selected works is being held in Mumbai at present. The exhibition, which began on February 23, ends February 27.

Talking about the display of his work alongside the launch of his book, Wairkar says, “Though I have trotted the globe participating in various fests and exhibiting my work, this one is close to my heart. I have put on display all my prominent recent work and I’m open to criticism as much as appreciation for my art.”

Wairkar, a diploma holder in applied arts, started his career with Shobhagya Advertising in 1977. After serving the agency for around two years, he did a short stint with Sista’s Satchi & Saatchi (now Saatchi & Saatchi). His next move was to Grey, where he spent around a year, before finally moving to Rediffusion DY&R.
