Suzlon accepts awarding business to Grey; media pitch on

Vivek Kher, group president, communication, Suzlon Energy, has confirmed to agencyfaqs! that the creative duties for the energy brand have moved to Grey Worldwide, not just in India, but globally

When, on March 27, agencyfaqs! reported that the creative duties for the energy brand Suzlon had moved from Dentsu Marcom to Grey Worldwide, the report ruffled many feathers. Senior executives from Grey, Suzlon and Dentsu Marcom termed it “untrue”. agencyfaqs! had reported that the official documents on the deal were yet to be signed.

Vivek Kher, group president, communications, Suzlon Energy, had written and denied the report of Grey being awarded the creative duties.

But now, Kher has told agencyfaqs!, “We have signed the contract with Grey Worldwide. And this is a result of a global realignment, under which the creative duties of Suzlon Energy will be handled by Grey Worldwide in India as well as other parts of the world.”

When asked about his earlier refutation of the news, Kher says, “Suzlon is a global organisation, and for us an advertising agency is not just a vendor but a partner in the business. This is why it takes a long time for such decisions.”

That’s not all. Kher also confirmed to agencyfaqs! that the media duties, also handled by Dentsu at present, are under review. The hunt for a suitable media agency is expected to fructify by the end of this month.

The advertising campaign for Suzlon is expected to come up soon. Without divulging much, Kher adds, “The objective of the campaign is very clear. We want to see Suzlon Energy emerge as a top global value brand.”

Suzlon Energy is expected to spend close to Rs 35 crores, and there will be no major shift in the media plan, which comprises largely of television commercials and dashes of outdoor at airports.

As reported earlier, the creative duties for Suzlon have been under review since August 2006, and the four agencies that participated in the pitch were Ogilvy & Mather, Percept H, Dentsu Marcom and Grey Worldwide. Dentsu Marcom has handled both the creative and media duties for Suzlon Energy since April 2005.
