New Delhi

The Shri Ram School will offer students the option of the International Baccalaureate diploma from the academic session commencing April 2005. Students who have completed their ICSE (class X) examination will be eligible to apply for the diploma. The International Baccalaureate Program, controlled by the IB Organization (IBO) headquartered in Geneva, has authorized the Shri Ram School to conduct the two year diploma program.

Mrs. Manju Bharat Ram, Chairperson, The Shri Ram School said "At Shri Ram, our focus has been in inculcating Indian values in children while preparing them to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing society. The word 'Shri' signifies abundance or wealth - wealth of knowledge, emotions, expertise, intelligence and confidence amongst other qualities. This embodies our teaching methodology which encourages our students to develop sound ethical values."

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Abha Adams Sood, Director, The Shri Ram School said "The IB course at The Shri Ram School is in alignment the current curriculum. It embodies learning without boundaries and is based on a creative, interactive, student-focused approach with an international perspective. Students learn about global thinking, skillful writing, problem-solving and analysis rather than just memorization of facts and formulas, combining the best and most advanced teaching methods adopted throughout the world. We have faculty that has been specially trained to conduct the IB programme and infrastructure to meet all the requirements of the IBO."

The IB programme incorporates the best elements of national systems, without being based on any one, thus enabling students to transfer from one IB school to another without any difficulty. The curriculum is designed in such a manner that the students share and academic experience that emphasizes critical thinking, intercultural understanding and exposure to a variety of points of view. The IB curriculum covers six academic areas or subjects which are concurrently studied with the core areas of ToK (Theory of Knowledge), CAS (Creative, Action, Service) and Extended Essay.

ToK (Theory of Knowledge) is an interdisciplinary requirement intended to stimulate critical reflection on knowledge and experience gained inside and outside the classroom. CAS (Creative, Action, Service) takes seriously the importance of life outside the world of scholarship, providing a refreshing counterbalance to the academic part of the programme. CAS encourages students to share their energy and special talents with others, thus helping them develop greater awareness of themselves, concern for others and the ability to work cooperatively with others. The Extended Essay gives the student an opportunity to investigate a special topic of interest and to become acquainted with independent research and writing skills.

Over the years the IB programme has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world's leading universities. The program offers the rigor, structure, and experiences necessary to challenge academically talented students. Students in IB classes complete a series of examinations based on internationally established syllabi. The IB program comprises a holistic philosophy of learning that seeks to address the intellectual, philosophical and social development of the student.

To address concerns and queries of parents and students on the opportunities provided by the IB course, The Shri Ram School will conduct workshops on January 23 and January 30, 2005. At the forum, parents and students will be able to learn about the IB program, meet teachers, and collect an application brochure. Details can be obtained from 95124-5062805/2352173 / 2352174
