Yahoo! joins the unlimited e-mail bandwagon

The online giant has announced the global rollout of unlimited storage on its e-mail service, Yahoo! Mail

Yahoo! will roll out unlimited storage on Yahoo! Mail, starting May, across its markets, including India. The news was first mentioned on Yahoo’s Yodel Anecdotal blog in March 2007, as Yahoo! Mail approaches its 10th anniversary in October.

The service will be available to users of both Yahoo! Mail and the upgraded Yahoo! Mail beta launched in September 2006.

“Yahoo! Mail has become an essential part of people’s lives over the past decade and people around the world are increasingly sharing more of their lives online. By providing unlimited e-mail storage, we’re continuing to build upon the industry’s best Web mail service,” John Kremer, vice-president, Yahoo! Mail, said in a press statement.

The e-mail services market in India is getting increasingly competitive. AOL recently launched its portal and next-generation e-mail service in India. Rediff announced unlimited storage on Rediffmail with a mass media campaign and Microsoft put its Windows Live Hotmail out of beta, increasing storage to 2GB.
