Tribal DDB India to handle online duties for Nike’s football site

The Indian version of Nike’s football fan site is being developed by Tribal DDB India

In a multi-agency pitch, Tribal DDB India has been appointed the digital agency for Nike India’s website for football fans. The site, NikeFootball.in, is the Indian version of its international website, Nikefootball.com.

Tribal DDB will create local content for the website. Leroy Alvares, country head, Tribal DDB India, says, “We will hold promotions (for the website) in schools all over India by putting up posters. We will soon roll out the second phase of the campaign for which we will get the brief from Nike Singapore.”

Sanjay Gangopadhyay, marketing director, Nike India, confirms the development, saying that the objective behind creating the India-specific site is to emphasise the company’s focus on football in India.

“The initiatives that have been conducted on this platform include choosing an Indian football crazy kid to train for a week in FC Barcelona under their coaches and Ball of Fame, which gave kids an opportunity to express their views on football on the ESPN show, Nike Football Locker Room. The site also showcases relevant global content produced by Nike’s Asia Pacific digital team in association with the global agencies,” adds Gangopadhyay.

NikePlus.in, an Indian version of its international website, NikePlus.com, was launched in November 2007. The site was Nike’s first digital endeavour in India. NikePlus.com was one of the three Cyber Lion Grand Prix winners in the Innovative Ideas category at the International Advertising Festival Cannes 2007. The campaign for the site was created by the Interpublic Group digital agency, R/GA, and bagged a Cyber Lion Gold.
