Social network Indyarocks.com launches online gaming

The social networking site has launched a gaming section and new features such as audiovisual chat

Aiming at increasing the time spent on it by users, the social networking site, Indyarocks.com, has launched an online games community with about 800 casual games. The games are featured under various categories such as action, adventure, sports, racing, word games and puzzles, and can be rated, reviewed and shared by members on the social network.

The gaming section allows users to upload games, browse games and manage their favourite games such as Sudoku, Cricket Challenge and Nine Ball Pool.

Kalyan Manyam, co-founder and head of operations, Indyarocks, says, “We get two million page views every day and hope to double that number in March, and we are trying to increase the time spent on the website. We are already getting enough traction with 28 minutes being the average time spent by a user.”

Social networks like Facebook and Orkut do not have any gaming features, but they have a number of interactive applications and widgets. Manyam claims that Indyarocks users have been asking for the gaming feature on the network, which is why they decided to offer it. However, the network does not intend to compete with gaming verticals such as Zapak.com.

Through gaming, Indyarocks is also looking at increasing user engagement on the social network. The gaming section has contextual ads by Google AdWords and these ads will be the only monetisation on the site. Manyam says that Indyarocks also plans to partner with game development companies to create downloadable branded games.

In addition, Indyarocks has introduced some interactive features like audiovisual chat. The number of registered users on the site was not disclosed by the company.
