Yahoo! India has extended its search to offer additional information to its users through images, videos, blog posts and Wikipedia pages
Yahoo! India has launched a new version of Yahoo! Search called Glue Pages, which provides relevant information for a keyword in the form of images, videos, blogs, maps and Wikipedia pages, in addition to the classical text search results. Glue Pages is still in the beta phase and has been launched only in India.
For instance, if a user searches for ‘Manali’ on www.yahoo.in, he will get images from Flickr, links from Yahoo! Answers, Yahoo! maps, travel related information from HolidayIQ, blog posts related to Manali from Google blog search, and information from Wikipedia.
Along with the additional information and classical text search results, sponsored links from advertisers also appear on the search results page.
Initially, Glue Pages Beta has been enabled for a limited category of keywords such as health, sports, entertainment, travel, technology and finance. Yahoo! India has tied up with some content providers for the additional information.
In an official communiqué, Sandeep Shrivastava, director, search, Yahoo! India, says, “Glue Pages Beta limits guesswork for the user by providing the best of the web all on one ‘at a glance’ page. Over time, Glue Pages Beta will be made available for more categories that are relevant to users in India. We are excited about opening this up further and working with a wider ecosystem of consumers, publishers, developers and advertisers in the future.”
The concept of providing additional relevant information sourced through other websites is not new. The search engine, www.ask.com, also offers additional information from Wikipedia pages, images and news apart from regular search results.
