The IRS 2006 Round 2 report is out and it clearly re-affirms the strong position of ‘Dainik Jagran’ among Indian daily newspapers. ‘Dainik Jagran’ has emerged once again as the number one daily in India with a readership of 1.82 crores. However, its readership has decreased from the last round of the IRS, when it was 1.91 crores.

At number two position is ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ with a readership of 1.35 crores, which is less than the 1.46 crores readership it had in the last round of the IRS.

The third and fifth positions in the list of top 10 dailies have been interchanged this time. ‘Hindustan’, which was number five in R1, has come in third, with a readership of 96.7 lakhs, a marginal decline from the 97.24 lakhs readers it had in R1.

‘Amar Ujala’, too, has retained its number four position with a readership of 94 lakhs, as against the 98.94 lakhs it had in the last round.

In number five position this time is R1’s number three, ‘Daily Thanthi’, with a readership of 93.2 lakhs. The daily has witnessed a steep decline this time from its R1 readership figure of 1.02 crores.

The last five positions in the list of top ten dailies remain the same, with only marginal changes in readership figures. Retaining sixth position is ‘Malayala Manorama’, with a readership of 91.4 lakhs, a slight decline from the earlier figure of 93.52 lakhs.

‘Lokmat’, which had a readership of 81.07 lakhs in R1, has seen a decrease in readership to 76.9 lakhs and is at number seven. At the eighth spot is ‘Eenadu’, which has a readership of 76 lakhs. ‘Eenadu’ has also witnessed a decline over the last round’s readership of 79.4 lakhs.

‘Mathrubhumi’ and ‘The Times of India’ have come in ninth and tenth, with a readership of 74.44 lakhs and 69.2 lakhs, respectively.
