ESPN STAR Sports’ Dilip Jayaram moves to Procam International

Jayaram has spent more than six years in all at ESPN STAR Sports

Dilip Jayaram, director, ad sales, ESPN STAR Sports, has moved to Procam International as senior vice-president. After a year, he will be ready to take over as chief operating officer there.

At Procam, Jayaram will explore new avenues in the field of sports and leisure management. At the very basic level, he will participate actively in everything from organising events and promoting and selling them to working out legalities, security and partnerships.

Jayaram says, “I will also be associated with Procam Mediatel, Procam International’s television division, which has been involved in the live production of events and marathons. Besides, I shall consider different show formats in the near future.”

Jayaram stepped into the media industry in 1995, when he became senior executive, ad sales, at the ‘Dalal Street Journal’. After spending a year there, he did a short stint at ‘Mid-Day’.

Towards the end of 1996, he joined Buena Vista Television India, which used to manage the ad sales for ESPN. Towards the end of 1999, he quit to do short stints at MTV and SAB TV.

In 2000, Jayaram came back to ESPN STAR Sports as regional head, South. In 2002, he shifted base to Delhi as regional head, North and East. In 2004, he took on the portfolio of business development and innovations for ESPN STAR Sports and headed the team that was responsible for the launch of PHL in 2005. In all, Jayaram has spent more than six years at ESPN STAR Sports.

Talking about the change in his role from selling air time to selling events, Jayaram says, “It is simply the scale of duties that have undergone a change. I have been involved with sports for a very long time and that does not change. It’s just that, today, I work across a broader vertical and consider issues such as PR, promotions, charity corporate events and a lot more than this, which were probably not looked at by me earlier, as television was just one element of sports.”

For the record, Procam International is a sports and leisure management company which organises the Standard Chartered Marathon in Mumbai and the Hutch Half Marathon in Delhi. It is involved with Under 17 Cricket, which it manages under the aegis of seven state associations. It runs the soccer leagues in Goa and Kerala, too. Additionally, Procam has done premium sports events in India like the Squash World Cup and Mr Universe.
