Kapil Dev, Tony Greig on Essel Group’s ICL executive board

The Essel Group formed the Indian Cricket League last month

The Essel Group has announced the executive board of the Indian Cricket League, which it launched early in April. The team comprises top names in Indian and international cricket – Tony Greig, Dean Jones and Kiran More with Kapil Dev as head. The board will have the final authority in all matters concerning ICL and will be responsible for running it.

Subhash Chandra, chairman, Essel Group, says, “We believe that in order to make ICL the pinnacle of cricket, the game should be run by people who have played it.”

It is learnt that the ICL executive board will adopt an approach similar to standard corporate procedure in which key responsibilities will be outlined to all its members. Some of these include formation of the six teams which will comprise the league, selecting talent from within the country to play in the ICL, laying out the terms and conditions and formulating the rulebook, preparing the grounds and pitches and creating innovations that will revolutionize the game.

On being roped in as chief of the ICL executive board, Kapil Dev says, “I will use my experience of guiding and motivating players both as a captain and coach.”
