India Radio Forum Awards 2007

The winners include Radio City, Big 92.7 FM, 93.5 SFM, Red FM 93.5, Fever 104 FM, Radio One 94.3, WorldSpace India, Radio Indigo and Radio Mirchi

The India Radio Forum 2007 received more than 390 entries from all over the country for the awards. There were 26 categories this year. In the second round, the entries were short-listed and five were chosen for each category. The winners that emerged after the final judging process include Radio City, Big 92.7 FM, 93.5 SFM, Red FM 93.5, Fever 104 FM, Radio One 94.3, WorldSpace India, Radio Indigo and Radio Mirchi.

The Station of the Year award was won by Radio City, Bangalore. Apurva Purohit, chief executive officer, Radio City, says, “Of all the Radio City stations in the country, Bangalore faced the maximum competition last year. At that time, seven other radio stations were being launched in the city and it was tough to keep a high connect with the audience. It’s a good thing that those efforts have paid off.” The other two awards won by Radio City include RJ of the Year in Hindi for RJ Love Guru and RJ of the Year in English for RJ Vasanthi.

Big 92.7 FM scored the maximum number of awards. It received five awards in all in different categories. RJ of the Year in Tamil was awarded to RJ Dheena (popularly known as Speed) and RJ of the Year in Kannada was given to Secret Shalini. The station won Best In-House Radio Promo in Tamil for ‘Station Promo, Moustache (Meesai)’ and Best Music Based Single Spot Promo for ‘Chennai Entry: Speed’. The Best Use of Advertising award went to the station’s entry, ‘Bangalore’s Adult Launch’.

Red FM 93.5 won three awards. It bagged the awards for Best Programme/Show in Hindi, titled ‘Malishka Rocks’; Best In-House Radio Promo in Hindi, titled ‘Kamla Ka Hamla’; and Best Interactive Idea, titled ‘Band Bajega’.

Sun Network’s 93.5 SFM also won three awards for Best Programme/Show in Tamil, titled ‘Blade No. 1’; Best Programme/Show in Telugu, titled ‘Guru Ho Ja Shuru’; and Best In-House Radio Promo in Telugu, titled ‘Thellarindoi Mama’.

HT Media’s Fever 104 FM won the Best New Launch award in Mumbai city. The station also scored an award for Best Cross-Platform Communication Campaign during its launch in the city.

Radio One 94.3 bagged two awards. Radio One 94.3, Mumbai, got an award for Most Innovative Show, titled ‘BBC Ek Mulaqaat’. Another award won by the station is for Best Community Service through the 7/11 blasts, titled ‘Bomblast Promo’, aired during the ‘Sangram Show’.

WorldSpace India, Radio Indigo and Radio Mirchi scored one award each. Best Programme/Show in Kannada was won by WorldSpace India for ‘Suvarna Samputa’; Best In-House Radio Promo in English was won by Radio Indigo for ‘Time Tunnel’; and Best In-House Radio Promo in Kannada was won by Radio Mirchi for ‘Chill Maadi’.
