Des Mein disrupts Balaji reign on C&S television

The Aruna Irani-produced and directed show is the leader in TAM’s Top 100 list for the week of May 4-10…

Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand has done the unthinkable. It has usurped the No 1 position beating the likes of Kyunki, Kahaani and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, to emerge as the frontrunner in the TAM C&S Top 100 list for the week of May 4-10. This is the first instance of a production from a rival media house, in this case from the stable of Aruna Irani, effectively dethroning Balaji Telefilms soaps. Does this imply the end of the Balaji hegemony on C&S television?

Early days, say analysts. However, the May 5 episode of the weekly, one-hour drama telecast at 9.00 pm on Mondays, stands tall with TVR of 10.9 followed by the May 5 and May 7 episodes of Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, with 10.5 and 10.3 respectively.

The week under consideration also marks a high point for Kasautii Zindagii Kay, the Balaji soap telecast at 8.30 pm on weekdays, which has been oscillating between the last few slots in the Top 10 with a brief interlude during the week of April 13-19 when the show moved into the Top 3.

The May 6 episode of Kasautii, Kahaani and Kyunki are ranked one after the other at Nos 4,5 and 6 with scores of 10.2, 10 and 9.9 respectively.

The May 5 episode of Kahaani, May 7 episode of Kasautii, May 5 episode of Kyunki and May 6 episode of Kehta Hai Dil, make up the last four slots in the Top 10.

In total, STAR Plus occupies 58 spots while Sony Entertainment Television (SET) is back to its original count of six in the C&S Top 100. The leader is the May 8 episode of Kkusum with TVR of 2.3 (No 77) followed by the May 10 episodes of Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat and Heena with 2.2 (Nos 78 and 79 respectively).

The May 9 episodes of CID and Devi are ensconced at Nos 84 and 87 (with TVR of 2.1), while the May 4 episode of Kya Hadsaa completes the line-up for Sony with a score of 2 (No 97).

ZEE remains conspicuous by its absence while SUN TV, KTV and Gemini TV, all part of the SUN Network, share the balance, namely 36 entries, between them. The individual break-up is as follows: SUN 30 entries, KTV, the Tamil movie channel has one entry, while the Telugu general entertainment channel Gemini has five entries to its credit.

For SUN, the leader is the May 5 episode of Metty Oli with a score of 3.6 (No 43), followed by the May 7 and 6 episodes of Alaigal and Annamalai with TVR of 3.5 (Nos 45 and 46 respectively).

KTV has Tamil feature film Bala (telecast on May 4) ranked No 71 with a score of 2.7, while Gemini has Ninne Pilladata making a clean sweep with a total of four spots.

The May 7 episode of Ninne Pilladata is the leader with a score of 2.2 (No 81) followed by the May 9 episode (at No 91 with TVR of at 2.1) and the May 5 and 8 episodes at Nos 92 and 95 respectively. The May 8 episode of Kkalavaari Kkodalu is ranked No 96 and has a TVR score of 2. © 2003 agencyfaqs!
