26 Designers Selected for International Design Contest from the North India

India Handloom Brand has selected overall 72 designers out of 493 designers for its final round of the contest. Out of 72 designers 26 designers belong to North India. The contest witnessed participation of 20 – 52 Age groups of designers and Ms. Nikhila Singh, 20 year old from Ghazibad and Ms. Divya Soni, 20 year old from Bhilwada are one of the youngest candidates selected for the final round of Contest.

India Handloom Brand has organized an international level design contest with an aim to attract young talent for designing contemporary life-style and apparel products, invited aspirants from both India and abroad. The first phase of the contest was set to begin from 3rd April 2016. The contest had a two stage process. In first stage overall 72 candidates get selected for the final round of contest. Now in second stage of contest shortlisted candidates need to submit their final prototypes. The entries will be judged on uniqueness of the concept, technique, fabric used, presentation of the work, design idea, aesthetic qualities, realization of the identified themes and degree of innovation among others.

Speaking about the contest, Shri Alok Kumar, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, said, “India Handloom Brand has always sought innovative ways and means to connect the handloom weavers and its customers. Design plays a major role in Handloom sectors and these designers are the future of our country and we feel a sense of responsibility to encourage these young talent to hone their skill levels and build a spirit of competition to put their best foot forward as they go on to achieving their dreams for the future. We are proud to organize an International Design Contest. I extend my heartiest congratulations to the candidates selected for the final round of contest.”

The winning 18 ensembles will be showcased at a grand event on 2nd National Handloom Day. The product design categories included Indian, Western, Indo-Western for men & women in themes such as “holistic clothes with meaning”, “comfort, functional and practical”, “simplicity” and lastly, “artistic fashion forward”.

IHB has provided reimbursement of Rs 10,000 for silk fabric and Rs 5,000 for cotton fabric for prototype development to participants shortlisted after the stage 1.
