<FONT COLOR="#FF0033"><b>IRS 2006 Round 2:</b></font> ‘Saras Salil’ maintains top spot amongst magazines

Following behind are ‘Vanitha’, ‘India Today’ and ‘Grihashobha’, in that order

As per the IRS 2006 Round 2 report, the top ten magazines have faced an overall decline in readership. ‘Saras Salil’, the Hindi magazine which topped the charts in R1 (readership: 73.61 lakhs), has secured rank one this time, too, with a readership of 63.02 lakhs. ‘Vanitha’, which stood at rank three in R1, has come in second this time. However, its readership has dropped to 33.12 lakhs from the R1 figure of 35.16 lakhs. ‘India Today’ (English) has stepped up one place to number three. It has a readership of 31.37 lakhs, as compared to 35.09 lakhs in R1.

‘Grihashobha’ is at rank four, with a readership of 27.66 lakhs. In R1, it stood at number five with a readership of 31.93 lakhs. ‘Kungumam’, which was R1’s number two magazine, has slipped down to rank five, with a readership of 26.27 lakhs. This is a decline of 11.32 lakh readers.

‘Kumudam’ has maintained its sixth position with a readership of 25.42 lakhs. However, this is a decline from R1’s readership figure of 30.71 lakhs.

‘Malayala Manorama’ (weekly) and ‘India Today’ (Hindi) have interchanged the seventh and eighth positions. ‘Malayala Manorama’ ranks seventh this time, with a readership of 25.01 lakhs, as against 27.60 lakhs in R1. At number eight is last time’s number seven, ‘India Today’ (Hindi), with a readership of 24.37 lakhs. Its readers have declined by 4.12 lakhs.

‘Ananda Vikatan’ has maintained its position at rank nine, with a readership of 23.35 lakhs. However, there is a decline in readership from R1 (25.50 lakhs).

Coming in at number 10 is new entrant ‘Balarama’, with a readership of 22.63 lakhs. Last round’s number 10, ‘Meri Saheli’, is no longer among the top ten magazines.
