It has been short-listed in four categories: Best Sports Coverage, Best Personality: Local Coverage, Best Writing and Station Promotion
Big 92.7FM is the only radio station that has made it as a finalist from the 106 Indian entries sent to the New York Festivals (NYF) Radio Broadcasting Awards 2007. The radio station has been short-listed in four categories. These include Best Sports Coverage for ‘Big Cup’; Best Personality: Local Coverage for RJ Aniruddh Chawla; and Best Writing and Station Promotion for the Hum Big 92.7 promo.
India has one more winning entry – a freelance entry that is not from any radio station. This entry aired on radio stations in New Delhi and is titled ‘Muslims on the Edge: Voices from Within’. It has been short-listed in the Community Portrait category.
RJ Aniruddh Chawla was nominated in the Best Personality: Local Market category on the basis of his emotional link with the local audience in Mumbai. Chawla hosts the 3-6 pm show on weekdays titled Aniruddh LLB (Love Ladkiya Bollywood). Giving an example of Chawla’s connect with the audience, Dhanda says, “Once, Aniruddh (Chawla) received a call from an HIV-infected person called Raja. This person had no friends in the city and wanted to befriend Aniruddh, who got this person on air and introduced him to a whole lot of listeners.”
The Hum Big 92.7 promo has been nominated for both script and programming in the Best Writing and Station Promotion category. The promo related with listeners by bringing the city alive and featuring emotional and expressive sounds. The duration of the promo was more than a minute.
The New York Festivals Radio Programming and Promotion Awards recognises the world’s best work in radio programming and promotion. The results will be announced mid-June.
