GEC Watch: Zee strengthens position at No. 2

The fifth season of Colors' reality show, India's Got Talent opened with 9380 TVTs.

Zee TV is the biggest gainer in Week 2 of 2014. The channel rose from 449218 GVTs to 488182 GVTs during the week, on the back of the premiere of the movie Ramaiya Vastavaiya which was telecast on January, 11 (5926 TVTs). Also, the channel launched a new fiction show, Aur Pyaar Ho Gya, which has opened at 4342 TVTs on Monday, January 6.

Two of the shows from the channel were listed in the top 10 list.

Star Plus stayed at its leadership position albeit with a loss in numbers, registering 629429 GVTs (last week 647045 GVTs). Five of its shows featured in the top shows' list including its big bet on mythology.

Colors gained 456864 GVTs (up from last week's 522147 GVTs) to take the No. 3 position in the Hindi GEC hierarchy. The channel is pushed to No. 3 this week as Zee TV catapulted to the No. 2 position. Two of the channel's non-fiction properties ranked in the top 10 list. The fifth season of Colors' reality show, India's Got Talent opened with 9380 TVTs.

As per data provided by a TAM subscriber (HSM, 4+, C&S, including LC1 markets), at No. 4 is Sony Entertainment Television's younger sibling SAB, marginally ahead of Star India's second rung GEC, Life OK. SAB TV concluded the week with 338228 GVTs, as compared to 360836 GVTs in the previous week. The channel as usual witnessed the presence of its popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma in the top 10 list.

Life OK, meanwhile, stayed at No.5 despite witnessing a growth in numbers. The channel rounded up to 337799 GVTs (last week 323457 GVTs).

Sony lost marginally to gross 263073 GVTs.

Interestingly, Zee Anmol has gained significantly to achieve 86328 GVTs, going ahead of STAR Utsav which is at 83268 GVTs. Zee Anmol and STAR Utsav telecast repeats of the older shows on Zee TV and Star Plus, respectively. Sahara One, meanwhile, stayed at 37861 GVTs.

Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum continued to be the most watched show on Hindi GECs with average of 14174 TVTs. This is followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar that fetched 12032 TVTs.

The next spot is occupied by Star Plus' Saath Nibhana Saathiya with 10947 TVTs, followed by Colors' Comedy Nights With Kapil (10586 TVTs). SAB TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma clocked 9872 TVTs to get the fifth spot in the top 10 list.

At No.6 is Colors' India's Got Talent. Star Plus' Saath Nibhana Saathiya comes next and fetched 7509 TVTs (last week 7474 TVTs). The fifth season of Colors' reality show, India's Got Talent opened with 9380 TVTs.

Next is Star Plus' Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that closed the week with 9360 TVTs. At No. 8, Zee TV's Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke gained 8574 TVTs, followed by Star Plus' Mahabharat (8334 TVTs) and Pyaar Ka Dard (7955 TVTs).

For the record, the figures mentioned are approximate TVT figures. TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is an average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
