More than twice as many as any other television network this year

Popular English movie channel HBO has received 20 Golden Globe nominations, which is more than twice as many as any other television networks this year, for the upcoming 62nd annual Golden Globe Awards to be announced in Los Angeles on January 16, 2005.

The Golden Globes is given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers led all HBO Original Movies - and all original movies of any network – with four nominations, while The Sopranos led all HBO series with an equal number of nominations.

The four nominations for The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers include Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television (Geoffrey Rush), and 2 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Charlize Theron, Emily Watson).

The Sopranos had four nominations including Best Television Series - Drama, Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama (Edie Falco), Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Drea de Matteo), and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Michael Imperioli). This serial, telecast by ZEE English, has a keen following in India as well.

While both these films are critically acclaimed, Sideways, a film directed by Alexander Payne, topped the scales with seven Golden Globe nominations, followed by The Aviator, which got six.

While Sideways is a bittersweet road comedy about two friends, one of them getting ready for his marriage, multi-starrer The Aviator tells the story of Howard Hughes, one of the richest men in the world, notorious for womanising, daredevilry and eccentricities.

A few hours after the Golden Globe nominations were announced, the New York Film Critics Circle named Sideways 2004's best picture. Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the New York Film Critics Online had also called it the year's best.

HBO's Iron Jawed Angels, meanwhile, got nominated thrice, including Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television (Hillary Swank), and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Anjelica Huston).

Deadwood has been nominated twice, including Best Television Series - Drama, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama (Ian McShane).

Entourage also got two, including Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Jeremy Piven).

Sex And The City tied with Entourage, including Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy (Sarah Jessica Parker). This serial is counted among the most popular English serials in India.

Something The Lord Made also got two nominations, including Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television (Mos Def).

Curb Your Enthusiasm got one nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy (Larry David).
