The judging for the New York Festivals International Design, Print & Outdoor Advertising Awards is in progress

Now entering its 48th year, the New York Festivals International Design, Print & Outdoor Advertising Awards has some news for Indian agencies. While the final judging is underway, the nominations have been announced. The Indian score card, as of now, is 30 nominations.

In print, there is Sanctuary Magazine’s ‘Swallowing’, Dabur Shankhpushpi 'Forget Nothing' and ‘Men In Black Are Here' for HBO. ‘Paper Roll’ for Deccan Herald and a creative for Gujarat Police are the other two works that have been nominated.

Needless to say, Madhukar Kamath, managing director & CEO, Mudra Communication, is happy. He credits Ryan Menezes, national creative director and his team for the work. “What you are seeing is a result of the fresh thinking of the young people in our team. This is just the beginning. There is more to come,” says Menezes.

Right behind Mudra is McCann-Erickson with seven nominations. While 'Really Big Bubble Gum' and Hanes 'Itchy Labels' are the two print nominations in snacks and apparels category respectively, 'Burst Bubble Billboard', Diet Coke Label', 'Impotence Cure', 'Child Labour' and 'Karate Stickers' are in Outdoor/Transit/Posters.

Leo Burnett has six nominations, five of which are in Outdoor. These are '3 Hours' for Heinz Tomato Ketchup, 'Hole' and 'Home Delivery' for McDonald's, 'Tiger Blood Stripes' for Sanctuary Magazine and 'Tree' for Atlas Cycles. The sixth one is a direct mail, 'Invite Book: Temple Of Dawn' for Steinmetz.

Then, there is JWT Bangalore and 1pointsize with three nominations each. "We are looking forward to picking up a few metals from New York once again", says Dhunji S Wadia, senior vice-president & general manager, JWT Bangalore.

As for 1pointsize, while two nominations are for Perri Alley – one in the apparel category and the other in photography, the third is ‘Thirsty/Just Do It/Accepted Here’ in the photography category.

A single nomination gives WHY Axis, run by former executive creative director of JWT - Bangalore, Niranjan Natarajan, a reason to smile. His nominated work, ‘22 year old toddler’, is in the Public service category.

RK Swamy/BBDO also has a single nomination. This is in the outdoor category called 'Is The Earth Trying to Tell You Something?' for Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited.

The ads were chosen amongst 4,313 entries from 62 countries. “To have achieved Finalist status indicates that the work was in the top twenty per cent of advertising or design excellence in the world,” said the notification from New York Festivals. Entries were judged online by a panel of 80 creative directors representing every major advertising centre around the world.
