BBC World appoints Amit Upadhyay head of distribution and business development, South Asia

Upadhyay will focus on developing distribution plans and strategies for the South Asian region

Amit Upadhyay has been appointed head of distribution and business development, South Asia, by BBC World. Upadhyay will be based in Mumbai and will report to Gerry Ritchie, regional director, distribution and business development (Europe, Middle East, South Asia, Americas), who is based in London.

Commenting on the appointment, Gerry Ritchie says, “The Indian distribution market is very dynamic and evolving at a rapid pace. This key position will allow us to have the most effective structure to strengthen and develop our distribution ties and lead the channel to greater growth and success.”

He adds, “I am delighted to announce this appointment and congratulate Upadhyay on his well-deserved promotion.”

Upadhyay will focus on developing distribution plans and strategies for the South Asian region. He will be responsible for maximising and building on BBC World’s current distribution base and identifying business development opportunities in the region.

Upadhyay has been an integral part of the distribution team at BBC World since 2001. He was regional manager, network development, for the western region in India. Prior to joining BBC World, he had done a stint with STAR TV.
