NDTV Media's much
awaited Hindi entertainment channel will most likely roll out in July 2007. Karan Johar's production house, Dharma Productions, will have a stake in it. It is not yet known how big the stake is. Johar will also be on the board of NDTV's entertainment channel.
This deal between the two entities means that Dharma Productions will work along with NDTV to develop programming for the new channel. Johar will help originate concepts and programming ideas and produce shows for the channel. In all probability, he will be the face of the new channel.
The channel will be a family entertainment channel, targeted at all age groups. The programming strategies are being formulated and NDTV promises that it will be a clear differentiator in the general entertainment space on television today.
Dharma Productions has produced popular movies such as 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' and 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'.
