Repeat order of coffee for Karan Johar and STAR India

STAR India and Karan Johar have got back together to present the second season of the popular chat show, ‘Koffee with Karan’

Bollywood director Karan Johar is back to brewing coffee for STAR India. From February 11, STAR India will commence the second season of the popular chat show, ‘Koffee with Karan’. The show is produced by SOL.

The show will be aired every Sunday at 9 pm on two channels of the STAR Network, STAR One and STAR World. It will feature a mix of celebrities from the entertainment, sports and corporate worlds.

Explaining the rationale behind running the show on both channels simultaneously, Ajay Vidyasagar, executive vice-president, STAR India, says, “This has been done to gather a bigger audience base. While STAR World attracts a more upscale audience, STAR One has a much stronger mass audience pulling power.”

When the show first went on air on STAR World, it was targeted at the upwardly mobile, urban, English speaking viewer. But as the show progressed, it was observed that its popularity wasn’t limited to this segment alone, but was spread across various socioeconomic groups and also that its ‘Englishness’ did not repel viewers.

In fact, after the show was aired on STAR World, it was re-telecast on STAR One; with a view to broad-base the viewers for the show.

This time around, the show boasts of celebrities such as Priya Dutt, Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. There’s no change in the format, but the channel claims that the show will be more ‘irreverent’ and ‘tongue-in-cheek’.

“‘Koffee with Karan’ has been one of the most popular shows with the right mix of fun and excitement and, considering its huge popularity, we have decided to air it simultaneously on STAR One and STAR World,” adds Sameer Nair, CEO, STAR India.
