At VGC, Vij’s mandate is to head account management. He shall also be responsible for looking at suitable future prospects for brands that are handled by the agency.

Commenting on the appointment, Anjan Roy, branch head, VGC, says, “Vij has dual qualities; he is able to focus on the big picture and has a track record of consistent delivery. The agency aims at producing good work, and he knows how to steer the team towards this goal.”

Vij began his career in advertising in 1994 at RK Swamy/BBDO as an account executive. After a year, he moved to join Bates David Enterprise (then Enterprise Nexus) as senior account executive. He climbed the ladder gradually to assume the role of supervisor and, later, account group manager. He was at the agency for four-and-a-half years, and launched Sony WEGA and Handycam.

In 1999, he moved to O&M, where he was appointed group head on the Vatika shampoo business. After spending two years there, he moved to Lowe in 2001. He had a short stint there as brand services director on Nestle chocolates and confectionery.

In 2002, he moved back to Bates David Enterprise as account director. In 2004, he moved to Rediff as client servicing director and was elevated to handle the brand unification of Bharti Airtel’s three businesses, Airtel mobile services, Airtel broadband and fixed line services and Airtel Enterprise Services.

Vij has handled brands such as Usha International, GM and Radico Khaitan’s 8PM. He was instrumental in launching the Tavera, Radico Khaitan’s Bermuda Rum and Iodex Power, during his second stint at Bates David Enterprise.

Musing about his new role at VGC, Vij says, “VGC has a strong entrepreneurship streak, focusing on newer forms of communication and a strong creative product. This is a combination that is tough to find and very satisfying once you do.”
