The application, called VideoGuard Express, offers fast time to market and local implementation and support for Indian cable operators implementing CAS
NDS, provider of technology solutions for digital pay TV, has launched a new solution for the Indian cable television market. Called NDS VideoGuard Express, the application delivers robust CAS security at a competitive price. The system has been pre-integrated with a set-top box and electronic programme guide (EPG), ready for fast deployment.
NDS VideoGuard Express offers fast channel change time and aims to deliver a user experience with impact. The system incorporates a convenient upgrade path to implement MediaHighway middleware, enabling advanced pay TV and interactive services, including NDS fully customisable EPG, call centre-based pay-per-view (OPPV) and NVOD. Fast software upgrade options hope to ensure a simple, future-proof solution for operators and their subscribers.

Sue Taylor, vice-president and general manager, NDS, Asia Pacific, says, “Many cable operators across India are looking for a CAS solution they can implement now to support their pay TV business and comply with government regulations to deploy CAS. VideoGuard gives a low-cost solution now, and an upgrade path for operators to implement new features and services in the future.”
NDS’ existing clients include Tata Sky and Hathway. However, as CAS itself seems to be struggling in India, has NDS backed the right horse? “Yes, definitely,” says Kishore Shirekar, general manager, NDS India, “CAS will soon be implemented nationwide, and we’re looking at the long term perspective.”
In future, NDS has plans to focus on providing technological solutions on new delivery platforms such as IPTV.
